Army Corps of Engineers begins seasonal closing of lake sites
The Army Corps of Engineers has begun the process of closing or partially closing certain recreation sites at J. Strom Thurmond Lake.
The closings mark the end of the summer recreational season at the lake.
Day-use picnic areas, including those at Amity, Gill Point, Lake Springs, Parksville and the West Dam are now partially closed.
Campgrounds at Modoc, Winfield, Hawe Creek, and Ridge Road will close for the season on September 8. The Petersburg campground will partially close, remaining open on a reservation basis. It will reopen March 28, 2025.
All Corps of Engineers-operated boat ramps, the below dam area on the South Carolina side and Clarks Hill Park day use areas will remain open.
