Work continues on new medical facilities in Columbia County
Demolition has begun in preparation for a new emergency room facility being built by Doctors Hospital.
The site was formerly home to Fatz Café, which closed in 2019 and had remained vacant since.
The Doctors Hospital plans to break ground this fall and estimates a 10-12 month construction period. When completed, the 10,860-square-foot facility will include 11 rooms – including one triage, CT and X-ray facilities, and in-house lab and pharmacy services. The building will face North Belair Road in Evans, across the street from the Piedmont Healthcare campus.
Wellstar also expanding in Columbia County
The Doctors Hospital project is one of two significant medical construction projects in Columbia County. Wellstar MCG Health is currently constructing a hospital near Grovetown. Plans for the Wellstar Columbia County Medical Center include 100 inpatient beds, a Level II trauma center, surgical suites, and a 90,000-square-foot medical office building. The facility is scheduled to open in 2026.
