Six Flags Over Georgia celebrates spooky season with Fright Fest
Spooky season is upon us and with that comes a 30-year Six Flags Over Georgia tradition: Fright Fest!
From September 14 through November 3, Six Flags Over Georgia is transformed with the addition of spooky decorations, mazes, sinister music, eerie shows, and “Scare Zones” that transforms Six Flags into a giant haunted amusement park, complete with roaming monsters.
“Fright Fest is like a separate opening of the park because it’s so different from our normal season,” said Dedra Brown-Harvey, PR/ Marketing Director for Six Flags Over Georgia.
She’s not exaggerating.
As soon as you walk into the park, the whole Six Flags experience is Fright Fest: the decorations and ambiance, the fog machines hidden throughout the park, even the fountains bubbling black and orange.
The mazes and “Scare Zones” do cost extra (a daily ticket and haunted attraction pass $65 at sixflags.com/overgeorgia). However, many of the haunted experiences are complimentary with your regular park pass (starting at $42 online), including getting frightened by roaming actors in very elaborate and very scary costumes and make-up.
If jump scares aren’t your thing, Six Flags has added “Kids Boo Fest.” It’s a more family-friendly spooky experience (minus the roaming monsters) during the day. However, at 6 p.m. sirens sound in the park to let you know that Six Flags Over Georgia is transforming as fast as a werewolf under a full moon. Brown-Harvey likes to call this transformation “Boo by Day, Fright by Night!”
The haunted attractions are very elaborate, each with a familiar theme. As Fright Fest celebrates its 30th year, the “Saw” movie franchise is celebrating its 20th with a Saw-inspired maze. Stranger Things is also represented with its own Scare Zone. Six Flags partnered with Lionsgate, Twisted Pictures, and Netflix to ensure each franchise is represented authentically, even having set designers assist in the design of the attractions. Additional Scare Zones include “Camp Slasher,” “Crimson Vein” and “Promenade Theater.”
In addition to these new haunts, Fright Fest at Six Flags Over Georgia features ten returning guest favorite shows, scare zones, and premium mazes, including “Nyctophobia,” a sensory deprivation maze that immerses guests in total darkness, and “Dr. Fright’s Dead Man’s Party,” which also celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
