An Aiken Woman Died, Eleven Injured in Edgefield County Crash
An Aiken woman died and nearly a dozen others were taken to the hospital after a car and van collided Sunday afternoon in Edgefield County.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the accident was reported at 3:35 pm at the intersection of Plum Branch Road and Morgan Bussey Road.
Master Trooper Gary Miller said the driver of a 2004 Toyota Sienna van disregarded a stop sign at the intersection and crashed into a 2003 Toyota Camry.
An Aiken Woman Died at the Scene
One of the eight people in the van was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Edgefield County Coroner David Burnett said 52-year-old Rupal Patel of Aiken was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:45 pm. Her body has been sent to Newberry for an autopsy.
The remaining seven people in the van and three in the Camry were taken to an area hospital. It’s not known how seriously any of the accident victims were hurt.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Patel’s death was the sixth in Edgefield County accidents so far this year. Over 800 have been killed on South Carolina roads to date in 2024, according to the state Department of Public Safety.
