A mandate, not a landside, paves the way for Bondi nomination
Hey Trump voters, let’s clear up a few things.
We did not see our guy win in a landslide. It was, however, a legitimate and sweeping victory that was more diverse than his many opponents ever thought possible and served the accusations that he is a “racist woman hater” back to his detractors on a platter- with a slice of crow-flavored humble pie for dessert.
The numbers were close, but clear. Trump won in every single swing state, and he did it with a fraction of the funding, the ill will of Hollywood and mainstream media against him – all while fighting partisan legal witch hunts.
The Left can downplay the margin of victory all day long, but voters clearly spoke out all over the country that they weren’t buying it. They enthusiastically made that point clear.
Landslide? No.
Mandate? YES!
This has been evident in Trump voters’ response to the Matt Gaetz nomination for Attorney General. While the anti-MAGA crowd fell into conniption fits from coast to coast over the notion that he was even being considered, the faithful celebrated the potential for the massive enema of bureaucratic impaction that his leadership might deliver. We loved the in-your-face nature of such a nomination, even while serious conservatives among us (sheepishly raising my hand) knew it was likely a futile exercise.
Gaetz had too much baggage and too many enemies, some on his own team, to have ever really stood a chance of confirmation.
In the great tradition of Shel Silverstein’s “Falling Up,” ultimately the departure of Gaetz from Attorney General consideration will end up being a victory rather than a defeat for Big Orange.
Pam Bondi, the nominee who has taken Gaetz’s place as Attorney General designate comes with all the conservative credentials, as well as a ton of practical experience and expertise that he only wished he had.
Not to mention profound personal popularity.
The Lefties are terrified.
MSNBC featured a fun interview Thursday with college professor and political scientist Jason Johnson detailing that very point.
“Occasionally, attorneys general try to behave like they are not the personal lawyer of the President of the United States,” he said. “That is completely out the window. Pam Bondi is exactly what I was saying …that we should all fear, because she’s competent.”
“We may not agree with her ideologically, but she actually knows how to do this job,” Johnson added, “So if anyone on the Democratic side or anyone who cared about liberty or justice was thinking ‘Well maybe Matt Gaetz will screw this up and that will give us time,’ no. Pam Bondi knows what she is doing.”
That’s right.
Trump’s bounce back on this may end up being the best thing that has ever happened in the ongoing fight against the corruption and petty politics that have polluted the Justice Department all the way back to the days of J. Edgar Hoover.
On a personal note, I sincerely hope one of her first tasks is identifying the individuals who downplayed and shelved a thorough and speedy investigation into the Hunter Biden laptop cover-up.
The discovery of that device, which was 100% authentic and 200% damning, was treated as off limits for inquiring media and elected officials during the 2020 election season, to the obvious benefit of the Joe Biden campaign. The FBI sat quietly and without comment as it watched 50 top intelligence experts, many on their own payroll, falsely conclude, proudly and publicly, that the laptop was a Russian invention.
Everyone at the FBI who hid the truth and delayed revelation should be immediately terminated and investigated on charges of dereliction of duty and obstruction of justice!
Bondi can spearhead such an effort with far more credibility and less partisan drama than Gaetz, or practically anyone else in that position, possibly could.
It is one of many campaigns that can help restore faith in not only the Justice Department, but across the halls of government. The faith that many conservatives have lost.
No, the numbers do not give Trumpsters the right to call their victory a landslide, but the enthusiasm with which they are pushing his agenda and his hopes for the country most certainly make for a concrete mandate.
