DOGE Cancels Leases on Many Federal Offices, Including One in Aiken
A Savannah River Site office has been affected by the latest round of DOGE cuts.

Department of EnergyThe Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is in the process of terminating hundreds of leases for federal offices across the country, and the Savannah River Site has one office on that list.
According to the DOGE website, nearly 800 leases have already been canceled.
It's part of President Donald Trump's Cost Efficiency Initiative to streamline government, eliminate waste and upgrade critical infrastructure.
"Its actions have included organizing mass layoffs of federal workers, accessing data from many federal agencies, and terminating funding related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives; environmental, health, safety, consumer and whistleblower protections, international aid, science research, and government.
DOGE Reports Cut Will Save $200,000 Annually
The Savannah River Operations Center, with an annual lease of $42,225, will be closing as part of the DOGE cuts. That will result in a government savings of over $200,000 a year.
DOGE officials said the space at SRS is no longer needed to host subcommittee meetings, adding that space is available at the Savannah River Research Campus as well as other locations there.
The lease for the Savannah River Operations Center expires at the end of May.
California tops the list of the federal office closures with a total of 63, while Maine has just 2 lease terminations so far.
A total of 23 offices will be closing in Georgia, and six, including the Savannah River Research Campus at SRS, in South Carolina.
Closures will affect several federal agencies including the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
