After 13 years of catching passes in the NFL, Julio Jones announced he was stepping away from football on Friday, April 4.

"Today I'm announcing my retirement," said Jones in a video posted to Instagram. "It started when I was 8 years old, just a kid in Foley, Alabama. It was an amazing ride."

Jones started his career playing at the University of Alabama. In 2011 he was drafted by the Falcons as the No. 6 overall pick.

For a decade in Atlanta, Jones dominated defenses and set team marks with 848 catches for 12,896 yards. His stellar play earned him seven trips to the Pro Bowl and two spots on the All-Pro first team.

His final three years saw brief stops with three teams. He played in Tennessee, then Tampa Bay, before finishing in Philadelphia. As an Eagle, he caught 11 passes and scored four times in his last 11 games.

Jones will be eligible for Hall of Fame induction in 2028, five years after his last game.
