Augusta educator Donny Carswell has advanced to the quarter-finals of America's Favorite Teacher Competition. The public can vote online through April 17 for finalists competing for a $25,000 award, a Hawaiian getaway, and a school visit from science star Bill Nye.
"Teaching allows me to help students exceed their expectations, unlocking their potential and achieving what they once thought impossible," said Carswell to Augusta CEO.
Carswell has been recognized for his teaching strategies and passion, winning a $10,000 grant from DonorsChoose, a grant from the Jefferson Energy Cooperative, and an honor with The Golden Apple Award. He was also recently featured on Good Morning America.
Should he win, the prize money will fund two big ideas. Students that pass the End of Course tests will get a trip to Washington, D.C. He'll also start a new social studies competition to spark interest in history.
Through his company, Be Something Diph4rent LLC, he guides young minds past obstacles toward their goals.
