South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer just announced that South Carolina's 2025 spring football game won't be on TV. The only way to watch the annual Garnet & Black Spring Game will be in person.
Why the switch? It's all about keeping their cards close. Other teams often study these broadcasts to size up their competition and spot new tactics.
ESPN gave SEC teams the option to have their spring games broadcast live or to do a 30-minute spring football show to air at a later date. Beamer believes doing a show would be better for the program from a recruiting standpoint.
"If all of you guys are recruits for us, we can let you know when this show is coming on, and you can watch this and learn a lot about our football program," said Beamer to On3.
The team still wants a real game-like scenario, playing most everyone, with some players having limited participation.
While many fans may be disappointed that the game is not televised, South Carolina is among many schools that decided to keep their spring games off of TV. Beamer says it is best this way to prevent other programs from doing early season scouting.
Admission to the game is free for everyone and gates will open at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 18.
