Before the concerts and recordings, there is always a song. And before there is a song, there is the songwriter – the foundation of every musical moment.
KICK 99 and the Beasley Media Group are celebrating the art of songwriting by presenting the Second Annual KICKS 99 Songwriter Series Concert, featuring Brett James, Josh Kear, and Wendell Mobley. The performance, featuring an in-the-round format with each writer sharing songs and the stories behind them, takes place Friday, May 2 at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $29 general admission $104 VIP. For a limited time, a Mother’s Day Buy-One-Get-One-Free will be available if purchased using the code MOTHER.
Wendell Mobley has ten No. 1 songs to his credit. They include “Take Me There” and “Fast Cars and Freedom” by Rascal Flatts, “How Forever Feels” and “There Goes My Life” by Kenny Chesney, “Tattoos In This Town” and “A Little More Summertime” by Jason Aldean and “How Country Feels” by Randy Howser.
Josh Kear is the first songwriter to have been awarded Best Country Song at the Grammys three times. His credits include Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats,” Lady A’s “Need You Now,” and Lainey Wilson’s “Watermelon Moonshine.” He has had 18 songs reach the top of the charts.
Brett James has had more than 800 of his compositions recorded, and 27 have reached the No. 1 spot on the charts. Among his hits are Carrie Underwood’s iconic “Jesus Take the Wheel,” Martina McBride’s “Blessed,” and “When the Sun Goes Down” and “Out Last Night” by Kenney Chesney. His songs have also been recorded by the likes of Jake Owen, Tim McGraw, Little Big Town, Dierks Bentley. Also comfortable outside country music, he has also written for Backstreet Boys and the rock act Theory of a Deadman.
“We’re really excited to be bringing these talented singer-songwriters to Augusta,” said Beasley Media Group Augusta Operations Manager Tee Gentry. “Besides being outstanding performers, I think there is real value in recognizing the role songwriting plays in music.”
