The Jags claimed their third consecutive Southland Conference title with a dominant performance. The team finished -21 under par to cruise to a nine shot win in the three day event. With the victory, Augusta University qualified for the NCAA Regionals. Now, they simply must wait for the NCAA selections to find out which regional.
Talented redshirt junior Bo Blanchard led the Jags. The Columbus, Georgia native played at Mississippi State University before transferring to Augusta University. Blanchard played flawlessly, posting rounds of 66-67-67 to finish 16 under par and winning the conference individual title by four shots. Blanchard did not have a single bogey in his final 40 holes of the 54-hole event. While Blanchard is from Columbus, he has ties to the Augusta area. His mother, Michelle Paige Blanchard, was a four-year varsity cheerleader at Lakeside from 1988-1992.
The Augusta University men’s team is sharing the golf limelight this week. The women’s team made some noise of their own recently. While they were unable to claim the team title at the conference championships, sophomore Zoe Pinillos outplayed the field, winning the individual title. Pinillos, a native of Peru, has been outstanding all season. She boasts a team best 76.0 scoring average and for her efforts, was named the Southland Conference’s Top Female Golfer. She will now prepare to represent Augusta University in the Women’s NCAA Regionals being held May 5-7 at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. If she plays well at the regionals, she could be headed to the NCAA Championships in California May 16-21.
