By 2027, Bridgestone plans to boost its yearly tire production by 2 million units across its U.S. facilities. The tire maker will focus on expanding operations in both South and North Carolina.

Following the new 25% auto parts import fees that started May 3, 2025, the tire maker will invest in its Aiken, South Carolina facility while also boosting output at its Wilson, North Carolina plant. The expansions were reported by the European Rubber Journal.

At Aiken, workers craft tires for everyday vehicles. This growth marks a shift to U.S.-based manufacturing, with targets set at 60% for passenger vehicles and 70% for commercial trucks.

The South Carolina growth comes as the company braces for a $275 million profit drop through 2025 due to tariffs. They aim to source 90% of materials locally, with natural rubber being the key exception since it carries no import costs.

While exact numbers remain unclear, the Aiken site plans to add staff. It stands as a major local job provider.

Production shifts stretch beyond U.S. borders — Mexican and Canadian plants will adjust their output to handle shifting trade expenses.

Bridgestone aims to produce 90% of car tires and 80% of truck tires within the Americas.
