Accelerate Augusta, a startup center at 600 Broad St., will soon welcome aspiring business owners in downtown Augusta. The site aims to guide both local entrepreneurs and Augusta Technical College students.
"We're providing training mentorship and a space for entrepreneurs to develop their micro-business ideas into sustainable ventures," said Margaret Woodard, executive director of the Downtown Development Authority, to WRDW.
The Downtown Development Authority created Accelerate Augusta to spark growth in the area. Inside, you'll find work stations and meeting rooms where people can shape their business plans into reality.
This launch comes right after several shops shut their doors last week. By giving new owners the tools they need, the Authority wants to prevent more closures in the district.
Woodard stressed why downtown needs this resource. "We want to keep them here and help them out," she said.
Business owners can use the space for any time between a few days to several months. They'll connect with current shop owners who'll share tips and track their growth.
While construction work is complete, the search continues for an executive director. Once filled, the doors will open to students and residents.
