Baret Doss (center) has brought the competitive spirit that made his a standout high school football player to the world of competitive bodybuilding.

If you follow local high school football you may remember the name Baret Doss. Doss was a hardnosed DE/LB for Lakeside from 2013-2016. In his senior season, Doss earned All-County and All-Region honors. He garnered some interest from a few schools, including Reinhardt University, who liked Doss as a tight end. Unfortunately, playing collegiately did not pan out for Doss., Little did he know his desire to compete would lead him to another sport.
Doss had always worked out. Beginning in 2022, however, he started to really take his gym time more seriously. He had hit a few obstacles in his life, and he found refuge in the gym. Doss, who works out at Gold’s Gym in Evans, met several people who shared a love for lifting weights and pushing themselves to the limit. Slowly, he started gravitating toward bodybuilding. He dedicated himself to a strict regimen and the more he practiced his poses, the more he wanted to perfect his physique and pursue his pro card in bodybuilding. He linked up with Jarmaur Stallings, an International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB) professional who would serve as Doss’s coach and mentor. As he improved his form, Doss began to consider entering bodybuilding events.
In 2024, Doss entered the OCB South Carolina Classic in Columbia, South Carolina.
OCB stands for the Organization of Competitive Bodybuilders, and it is a natural bodybuilding organization. They organize bodybuilding competitions that are drug-tested and focus on fair competition for natural athletes. The OCB is the largest natural bodybuilding organization in the United States. Despite having never stepped on a stage before, Doss walked away with a Third Place Overall finish. That success only made Doss hungrier to achieve his goal of gaining professional status. The dedication in the gym, the diligence with his diet -everything was even more dialed in than before.
All the hard work led up to the 2025 OCB South Carolina Classic last weekend in Greenville, South Carolina. Doss’s improved muscle size and definition were blatantly obvious, and the judges took note. The former Lakeside Panther captured First Place in Novice Class B and First Place in Class B Overall. That would be impressive enough, but Doss also finished Second Overall among all competitors.
The early success continues to fuel Doss, motivating him to push harder.

“Getting (a) pro card is not matter of if, but when,” he said.

Based on what we have seen from him in such a short amount of time, it is safe to say that the bodybuilding world will be hearing the name Baret Doss for years to come.
