Augusta Today columnist Austin Rhodes puts his Trump Whisperer hat on again and looks at the White House events that shaped news last week.

The Trump Whisperer is back. Pardon any typos, but it is tough to hit the right keys as I chuckle and snort. I’m finding a lot of joy as the president takes his victory lap during a live and interactive press conference.

What a week that was. It started with a huge military win for civilized nations over Iran, the largest state sponsor of terrorism the world has ever known. That was followed by Supreme Court victories for the administration and, of course, a tremendous stock market rally that set records and undid the damage of the tariff scare a few months ago.

The Trump 2.0 model is proving to be exactly what his voters hoped that it would be. It’s an enthusiastic approach to political and economic goals, without the hindrance of bureaucratic inexperience and the cloud of doubt that accompanied every ridiculous accusation sounded by the opposition and their mainstream media allies.

No, democracy was not thwarted.

No, America's existence is not at risk.

No, the world hasn't turned against us.

Trump's party ran a complete beginning-to-end primary in 2024, while his opponents called a do-over after their age-addled President embarrassed himself on a national stage. They simply yanked their candidate off the ballot, even after they insisted for months that Joe was fine.

Nobody on Trump's team needs to debate the travesty that was the Biden re-election campaign. Democrats young and old are doing it themselves. They are ripping each other to shreds and rightfully so. With every week that goes by there are new revelations concerning the longstanding understanding that they were running an inferior candidate whose flawed record and overall agenda was too much to escape. In fact, what little success they could tout were reversals of earlier stands on domestic energy and immigration policy that proved disastrous and wildly unpopular. When Biden reverted to the Trump approach on both issues, only then did there seem to be progress and success under his administration.

In the midst of caterwauling about the fear of elections going away, the Dems foisted an unprepared candidate on voters – a candidate they ultimately, and wisely, rejected. It was a loss that came despite spending almost half a billion dollars more than Trump, all while enjoying the favor of Hollywood and the supposed "straight” journalists that are supposed report the news without prejudice or agenda.

Democracy was not thwarted in the 2024 election. It, in fact, prevailed.

As far as the other two concerns, screamed from the rafters by the anti-Trump crowd...

America's economy is rolling along at an incredible pace, despite ridiculous predictions of collapse, crash, and burn. Keep in mind, all of this economic growth happened in the shadow of threats of a prolonged war in the Middle East, continued war between Russia and Ukraine, and a Federal Reserve Chair that seems bound and determined to hold back further progress by artificially keeping America's prime interest rates too high.

As NATO gathered last week, it seemed very clear that the cohesion and shared mission of the group is not only stronger than ever but has actually coalesced around President Trump's insistence that member nations pony up and contribute to bearing the weight and duty of the collective whole.

The Secretary General of NATO raised a few eyebrows when he jokingly referred to Trump as “Daddy” in a joint press appearance. He later qualified the statement, saying he was referencing concerns that the "family" was under the threat of dissolution because the "head of household" seemed recently ready to leave.

But the truth is, he never was.

The whole world knows and recognizes the role of the United States as the de facto quarterback when it comes to the military defense of western civilization. Trump is not hesitant to bear that responsibility. He simply demands others pull their weight. There is zero moral or intellectual pushback on that notion that makes any sense at all.

He was right to demand that NATO allies honor their defense spending commitments, and it is only stronger and more relevant as a result.

If that doesn't show the world respects America and our current leader, I don't know what does.

Whether they like Trump or not is irrelevant. They respect him, they fear him, and they listen to him.

At the end of the day, the daddy usually gets the love of the family no matter how tough or old fashioned he may have been leading the household. I don't expect his detractors to ever love him. I do expect, at the end of this term, most will be forced to admit we are better off because of his approach - as a nation and as a world.
