Augusta University's Kids University expands on its summer offerings with physical education classes and the chance to explore journalism, with plans to introduce hands-on nursing opportunities.
"Kids University is an affordable, high-quality summer camp designed to nurture children's humanity through enrichment classes not typically available in traditional school settings," said Nai-Cheng Kuo, PhD, professor and program director for the Department of Teaching and Leading, in an Augusta University release.
The program provides the opportunity for students to connect with subjects that may not resonate in a typical classroom setting. Young students will learn basic health skills as well as lessons in STEM. They'll also step into broadcast roles, trying out news reporting and weather updates.
"This camp takes place on a major university campus. It's an opportunity for children to interact with high-level curriculum and benefit from the same resources we bring into our classrooms," said Kim Barker, PhD, associate dean for academics and an educator-researcher, in the Augusta University release.
Kids often return year after year. They build lasting friendships while trying out new subjects and learning about future careers.
