Rolls-Royce is investing $75 million into its Aiken engine plant. The move adds 60 jobs to meet rising needs for backup power in data centers.
"The increased investment strengthens our ability to serve our U.S. customers – especially in the fast-growing American data center industry," said Adam Wood, Managing Director for Rolls-Royce's Power Systems division in America, in a press release according to CNBC.
Workers will make more mtu Series 4000 diesel engines for backup systems. Experts predict $1 trillion will flow into AI facilities and their support systems soon.
Construction starts in early 2026. The first step adds 37,000 square feet, with plans for 22,000 more. New machines will start running by July 2027.
This shift brings work from Germany to American soil. Workers in South Carolina will shape metal parts, sending them to Minnesota, where teams build complete power units.
"We are proud to support America's growing demand for reliable, domestically made energy systems that strengthen our nation's energy independence and security," said Adam Riddle, CEO of Rolls-Royce North America, in a statement to WIS TV.
These backup systems keep critical places running, like data centers, hospitals, and municipalities.
