Aiken County officials approved five building projects totaling nearly $100 million to upgrade local schools. The plans call for a new middle school, athletic facilities, and extra learning spaces.

North Augusta Middle School will get a full rebuild starting in 2026. "That school is about 75 years old, built in the 1950s. You gotta almost walk a mile to get to the curb, to get to the main office. So this new building will have modern technology, great views of the river basin," said Colen Lindell, Aiken County School Board District 4, per WRDW/WAGT.

At Wagener-Salley High School, $15 million will fund a new athletic complex, featuring a new football field, baseball fields, and a public park space.

Changes at North Augusta High School include a new 450-seat auditorium. Belvedere Elementary gains both classrooms and a new dining area. Students at J.D. Lever Elementary will benefit from a new building that adds both study space and room for physical activities.

Workers aim to match the standards set by nearby school systems. Once work starts, the projects should take about 18 months to complete.
