First Burke County Sheriff’s Office RICO Arrests Made
The arrests of Susan and Michael Wimberly by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office mark the first RICO charges ever filed by that organization.
SpecialSusan and Michael Wimberly have been arrested in Burke Country for embezzling more than $620,000 from CMS Waynesboro over a period of approximately four years.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office has made two arrests in the first RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) charge ever filed by the organization.
The organization announced that Susan Jennifer Perez Godbee Wimberly, an employee of CMS Waynesboro, and her husband Michael Wimberly were arrested in connection with an embezzlement scheme. According to charges, the couple were responsible for the embezzlement of more than $620,000 over a four year period.
The investigation was led by Burke County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Heather Sims, with assistance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The investigation uncovered a complex financial scheme which led to stolen funds being used to purchase farm equipment, vehicles and a restaurant. The couple have been formally charged with Racketeering and are currently being held at the Burke County Detention Center.
