Senator Jon Ossoff wants the government to conduct an investigation into mold in military homes. His push comes after the checks failed to paint a clear picture. The Georgia lawmaker aims to add this rule to the next Senate Defense bill.

"If you don't stay on top of this, you're not going to get sustained progress," Ossoff said, according to WRDW. "The way that these deals are set up with these companies, where they have decades of guaranteed business and there's no competition and there's little accountability really requires us in Congress to be advocates for the military families in our states."

This call stems from a two-year-old check of living spaces that started at Fort Gordon, which grew into a nationwide review of military housing. Ossoff walked through homes himself to see what was wrong. Despite finishing these checks, no one has made sense of what the data shows.

"I think we've seen real improvement, but it's still not good enough. Many families are still not being served to the standard that they deserve," Ossoff said to WRDW. "If we respect them as we should, as the heroes who defend our nation, we will make sure that they are living in safe, clean, healthy housing, whether it's Fort Gordon or any other base across the country."

In 2023, Ossoff, along with Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, penned an inquiry to the DoD’s Inspector General demanding better data collection and oversight for privatized housing. Today, Ossoff continues to call on Georgia military families to share their experiences through a public service initiative.
