Women’s DIY Group Seeks New Members Who Need Help With Home Repairs
What started as a conversation on the Nextdoor app has now become a women’s DIY group that is actively seeking new members.

Getty ImagesIn July, a women's DIY group formed in July in Aiken and Edgefield counties. Now that the group is taking off, they are seeking more members.
The idea originated when women connected on a neighborhood app to share interests in DIY projects and support to tackle home repairs together. The group's goal is to build confidence, share skills, and make home repair accessible for women who may not be able to afford contractors.
Now the group is seeking new members with the goal of serving women who need help with home repairs and projects. The group is looking for single women of all ages who are homeowners, those without men to do the work, and women with limited financial resources who can't afford a contractor. No construction or power tool experience is necessary to join.
Founded by Janine Garropy, the group currently has members from Aiken County, Edgefield County, Johnston, and North Augusta. Garropy told the Aiken Standard that she got the idea from her own experience. She was a single parent for most of her life and learned to make repairs around the house on her own. She relied on YouTube as a resource and has accomplished many home projects by herself.
Since it began, the group has completed projects such as building a deck for a member's house. Members of the group plan to continue helping women with their home improvement needs.
“You don't have to do it alone,” said member Teresa Shutley in a statement shared with the Aiken Standard. “We are here to help.” Shutley, who recently joined the DIY group, said she was looking for something meaningful to do with her time that would help others as well.
Women interested in joining can contact Garropy via text at 803-334-9890 to become part of this supportive DIY community.
