Thanks to a collaboration among the Georgia Cancer Center's Sun Safe team, Impact Melanoma, North Augusta Parks and Recreation, and Unite in the Fight Against Cancer, nine new public sunscreen dispenser stations have been installed throughout the Augusta area.

On Monday, Sept. 8, a new sunscreen dispenser was unveiled at Boeckh Park in North Augusta. The effort is part of a "Sun Safe Augusta" initiative, which aims to lower skin cancer rates among individuals across the region.

Deb Girard, executive director of Impact Melanoma, praised the partnership's success in educating the public about the importance of sun protection. “We are incredibly grateful for the time, dedication, and collaboration from all partners involved in bringing sun safety to Georgia. This initiative is a shining example of what can be accomplished when organizations come together with a shared vision for public health and cancer prevention,” she said in a statement shared with WRDW and WAGT.

Nyree Riley from the Georgia Cancer Center added that providing resources like sunscreen stations, along with education, is essential for raising awareness about sun safety.
