A new 5K event kicks off at Augusta Canal Mill Village Trailhead this weekend.

The CSRA PCOS Support Group "PCOS 5K Any Way" will take place Saturday, September 20, and has an entry fee at $25 per person.

Check-in starts at 7 A.M., with activities running from 8 A.M. to noon. People can complete the course however they like - running, walking, or biking along the scenic path.

The funds raised will help local programs supporting women living with polycystic ovary syndrome. This health condition appears during childbearing years, often leading to fertility problems and other health issues.

During the event, health vendors will offer their services, and participants can win prizes through raffles. Doctors will talk about ways to handle PCOS and the latest treatments available.

Mill Village trail's flat, paved paths make it perfect for people of all fitness levels. The organizers picked this spot because it's easy to find and get to.

By holding the event during PCOS Awareness Month, organizers hope to bring more attention to this condition. Local support groups have stepped up their outreach efforts lately.

Past events, like the PCOS Awareness Month Tour, helped connect patients with important medical resources. This first-ever 5K represents the next step in community support.
