Around 950 cats and dogs from the SPCA Albrecht Center in Aiken, South Carolina, now live with caring families. The shelter inches toward its yearly target of 1,000 adoptions.

According to WRDW/WAGT, 1,152 pets were adopted last year. Staff put in countless hours to pick just the right homes for each animal.

"Adopting a pet is adding a member to your family; it's not just an animal, but these animals depend on you as their family, and as their caretakers. We promote responsible adoptions, meaning thought process, making sure that it is the correct match," said Jade Garrett, events and fundraising manager at SPCA Albrecht Center, according to WRDW/WAGT.

Starting this week, adoption fees are half off. Saturday brings Aiken's Top Dog Contest to Good Girl Brewing Co. The fun starts at 11 a.m. and is a fundraiser for the SPCA Albrecht Center.
