Getty ImagesA new service brings food straight to homes in five Georgia counties. Golden Harvest Food Bank started Project Dash by working with DoorDash and United Way to get meals to those who can't reach food banks.
The service runs in Richmond, Columbia, Burke, McDuffie and Jefferson areas. United Way covers the delivery fees. Golden Harvest stocks the food boxes and basic supplies for those in need.
"You have to think about yourself sometimes, like put yourself in other people's shoes and just to know that you are unable to get to the food pantry, you're unable to feed your family," said Danielle King, manager of 211, according to WRDW. "So we need programs like this so we can help those families that are unable to provide for their families."
Homes must sit within 10 miles of a store to get free delivery.
To receive the service, dial 211. This United Way number connects callers with local aid. Staff will match people with the right services near them.
