Getty ImagesOfficials will soon crack down on illegal parking throughout Riverside Village. The City Council backed the measure on Oct. 20, 2025, with final sign-off expected next month. Enforcement of the new rules is not expected until early 2026.
The rules will affect Lafayette, Front, and Center streets up to the Municipal Building. Violators who park in restricted spots will see their cars moved to a holding area. This includes all parking decks, with Augusta Oncology's structure falling under the new rules.
Public spots total 825 across the district. The medical center's deck holds the most cars. Street spots and other structures split the rest of the spaces between the stadium and hotel.
The city must still pick a towing firm and install signs. At first, staff will hand out warnings. Assistant City Administrator J.D. McCauley laid out the main goal to Post and Courier North Augusta: "The first stab at this is to get people out of the obviously wrong areas of parking. So, the center median, the yellow curbs — anywhere that's illegally parked would be subject to towing."
This marks the second step in fixing traffic issues. Step one brought weekend trolleys linking downtown to the village.
Workers will add safety posts near the ballpark and amphitheater. These will block cars from restricted zones.
Future plans target the broken parking meters. With no way to charge fees right now, the focus stays on clearing blocked zones and keeping paths open for emergency vehicles.
