North Augusta has accepted a bid from a towing company to enforce parking rules in the Riverside Village area. Vehicles not parked in designated spaces may be towed under the new rules.

Mayor Briton Williams said signs will be posted around the area to inform drivers of the enforcement changes. The city is also launching a valet service that works through a mobile app.

Williams said he has received complaints about parking problems in the area. Residents have reported issues with drivers parking on grass and in front of businesses.

"I've heard of citizens upset that people are parking on the grass, parking in front of businesses," Williams said, according to WRDW. "You know, people are not parking in parking places because it's not convenient for them. We have a problem, and we're going to address that by towing."

The mayor said the changes will be put in place in phases. This approach will make sure residents are aware of the new rules before enforcement begins. Officials have not said when towing will begin.

The mobile app-based valet service offers an option for drivers who have trouble finding spaces. Pricing details weren't disclosed.
