The Irish American Heritage Society unveiled the finalized route Friday for its 49th annual St. Patrick's Day parade. Festivities kick off March 17 at 2 p.m. in downtown Augusta.

Parade Chairman Matt Kelly and committee members collaborated with city officials on the revised route. Construction downtown forced the changes.

About 40,000 people attend each year. This year's route still crosses Broad Street, allowing access to restaurants, shops, and attractions throughout downtown.

The march spans 1.73 miles. It starts at the James Brown Arena parking lot, winds through several streets, then loops back.

Participants exit the arena parking lot heading north on Seventh Street. The route turns left onto Greene Street heading west, then makes a right onto 10th Street heading north.

Marchers turn left onto Reynolds Street heading west. Next comes a left turn onto 11th Street heading south, followed by another left onto Greene Street heading east.

The march wraps up with a right turn onto Seventh Street heading south, returning participants to the James Brown Arena parking lot.

A map with the complete route appears on the society's website. More details about the event can be found there, too.
