Owner Lakeisha Germany opened public hours after hearing what customers wanted. "Everyone's been asking that we open, so we're going to try it and see how it works out," said Germany, per WRDW.
She bought the property with her husband. The initial purpose was to rent it out as an Airbnb but their plans soon changed.
The shop began as a rental space for birthday parties, bridal showers, and similar gatherings. After a few months, tea-themed events started.
Germany found inspiration during a trip to Atlanta. "I went to Atlanta and just happened to go to a tea house in Atlanta. And I thought oh Augusta doesn't have this," Germany said.
Tea at Royal Tea comes from Maryland, Ohio, California, and Texas. "I can get tea from Georgia, but it'll be tea from Georgia," Germany said. "You want to bring different things to Augusta. That's the good thing about partnering with people from all over the place, because they all have a different perspective."
Royal Tea now hosts themed events, such as a Bridgerton afternoon tea. They also host an Easter tea and a Derby afternoon tea.
