Aiken County Habitat for Humanity Launches Home Repair Program for Low-Income Homeowners
Aiken County Habitat For Humanity has announced a new home repair program for low-income homeowners.

Aiken County Habitat for Humanity has started a fix-up service for struggling homeowners. Those facing money troubles, health challenges, or other barriers that make maintenance difficult may qualify for the program. Applications open May 1, per Aiken Standard.
Homeowners won't just watch from the sidelines. They'll work alongside staff and volunteers, getting their hands dirty with repairs. This builds confidence and ownership. The nonprofit has wanted to do this for years because the need is real.
Simple fixes come first. Think yard cleanups where weeds have taken over, and junk has piled up. Windows and doors get caulked to stop drafts. Handrails go up on steps for those who need help getting around. Ramps get built or fixed for wheelchair users.
Selection works like the homeownership side of things. You must live in the house. It has to be a single-family place, not an apartment or duplex.
Your earnings must fall under 80% of the area's median income for your household size. If you don't qualify, you can wait six months between applications. Pick one up at the office.
Publix Super Markets Charities, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, and Crane Charitable Funds all chipped in. Without their backing, this wouldn't exist.
Find the office at 1026 Park Ave., S.E. Doors open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
