Walmart has begun updating almost 50 stores across Georgia and South Carolina. New layouts will appear. Fresh technology arrives, bringing expanded self-checkout stations to shoppers.

The Grovetown Walmart Neighborhood Market shut down for the entire month while crews work inside. Two North Augusta sites, one off Exit 1, another at Exit 5, wrapped up their transformations earlier this year.

Great Value, which Walmart owns, is changing too. Over 10,000 items will get a fresh appearance, from pantry staples to cleaning supplies.

Company officials say nutrition labels will appear in the same spot across products. By next January, synthetic dyes will vanish from Great Value foods.

Stores are racing to upgrade what customers see and use. Self-checkout has spread nationwide as technology reshapes shopping.

Walmart runs numerous stores in Georgia and South Carolina, making these upgrades a significant commitment to the area.

Grovetown shoppers must wait until the month's end. They can visit neighboring stores while construction continues.

No completion date exists yet for all 50 locations. Crews keep working at sites throughout the two states.
