17th Annual Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament Set To Support Aiken Veterans’ Programs
The 17th annual Aiken Area Veterans Support Charity Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament will kick off on May 18.

The 17th annual Aiken Area Veterans Support Charity Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament will tee off May 18 at Woodside. Proceeds will fund assistance programs for veterans at Aiken Technical College and USC Aiken. The money also pays for an annual Christmas retreat at Camp Gravatt, where vets bring their families.
Registration starts at 10 a.m. An opening ceremony follows at noon. The shotgun start fires at 12:30 p.m.
Each player pays $125, or teams of four can register for $500. Singles get paired up as needed.
In past years, organizers called this the Aiken-Augusta Wounded Warrior Charity Golf Classic. Janney financial advisors will present this year's event.
One beneficiary is the USCA Community Veteran Clinic, which offers no-cost mental health and counseling services to veterans and service members.
"Providing no-cost, confidential mental health and counseling services to veterans and service members in our local community," said Tristan Stone, assistant director of the university's office of veteran and military student success, according to the Aiken Standard.
Major sponsors in previous years have included St. John's Methodist Church, Anchor Post-Acute, Physicians Service Group of South Carolina, Murphy Auto Group, and Silver Bluff Animal Hospital. Hundreds of golfers have shown up over the 16-year history. Dozens of businesses have pitched in too.
The registration deadline is May 4. Woodside will host participants who gather to raise funds for area veterans' initiatives.
