The Columbia County Performing Arts Center continues its policy of bringing laughs to the heart of Evans, bringing comedian Joe Gatto’s “Let’s Get Into It” tour to the venue on Sunday, February 16.

“Let’s Get Into It” is the follow up to the “Night of Comedy” tour, which resulted in Gatto’s first ever stand-up comedy special “Messing With People,” available for streaming on Hulu.

Most people were introduced to Gatto by way of the popular truTV reality show, “Impractical Jokers,” featuring Gatto, James “Murr” Murray, Brian “Q” Quinn, and Sal Vulcano. After meeting in high school, the foursome toured as an improv group called the Tenderloins for a decade before finding success with “Impractical Jokers” in 2011.

“The show is friendship on display,” Gallo said. “It’s friends making each other laugh.”

Gatto left the show in 2021 to have more time to connect with his family and build his own comedy brand. He has published two books: “The Dogfather: My Love for Dogs, Dessert and Growing Up Italian,” and “Where’s Beary,” a children’s book inspired by helping his son find his stuffed bear at bedtime.

Gatto also hosts a podcast with his comedian friend Steve Byrne called “Two Cool Moms.” It is currently in its second season and approaching its 100th episode. The comedy podcast covers all topics, each episode culminating in advice given to listeners by way of wisdom imparted to them from their two strong, opinionated, and “cool” moms.

Gatto said Sunday’s performance at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center is all new material.

“It’s taking a look at how we become the people we are,” he said. “Like how I became this loud, bold comedian but I started as this nerdy, geeky kid who used to make tests for my father while he was at work. So, he would come home from his 12-hour workday, selling life insurance door-to-door, and I’d hit him with a pop quiz.”

No longer writing tests, Gatto has found his calling writing jokes. He has a love for comedy and has been perfecting his craft since the late 90s. Even with his current success, it feels as if he is just getting started.

“We’re out here entertaining, baby,” he said.
