There are a lot of dining options in downtown Augusta. There are places to get Mexican food. There are places to get burgers. There are fine dining options and sandwich shops. Missing was a spot for pulled pork, brisket, or a rack of ribs. That is, until Fifth & Fire opened at 551 Broad Street.

Fifth & Fire was opened by the ownership group behind Sole, which has become one of downtown Augusta’s more popular restaurants.

Location and a gap in the downtown dining market inspired Fifth & Fire. There are only a handful of dining options on the lower end of Broad Street and the owners saw this as an opportunity to bring business to that end of Broad Street.

Developed in a deceptively spacious storefront, Fifth & Fire is divided into a main dining room and a covered patio in back. Their owners said the aesthetic was determined by a desire to embrace the iconography of a barbecue joint without becoming a boys club.

“It’s a place where you can bring a lady, and she’s not going to be upset that you brought her to a Bar B Que restaurant,” said TJ Grove, one of the owners.

Fifth & Fire is still very much a work in progress at this point. They are working to fine tune and perfect the food, and in the process of getting the patio area ready. Fifth & Fire has a selection of appetizers, entrees, sandwiches, salads, sides and desserts, as well as a full bar.
