Former Augusta Commissioner John Clarke Has Died-Funeral Arrangements Announced
Former Augusta Commissioner John Clarke died Wednesday at Doctors Hospital, one week after suffering a massive heart attack.
Clarke, who held the Super District 10 seat on the Commission from 2018 to 2022, reportedly collapsed January 22 and was rushed to Doctors Hospital.
Former Augusta Commissioner Suffers Heart Attack
Word quickly spread that Clarke had suffered a massive heart attack and was on life support in the Intensive Care Unit.
Friends and colleagues shared news of his condition on social media, asking for prayers for his recovery.
Commissioner Tina Slendak confirmed today that Clarke passed away Wednesday afternoon.
Commissioner Catherine Smith-Rice said Clarke was treated for an illness over the holidays, but had appeared to recover. He had even attended a recent meeting of the Augusta Historic Preservation Commission, the week before his heart attack.
Funeral Arrangements Announced
Clarke’s funeral will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, February 3, at Thomas L King Funeral Home Chapel on Davis Road in Martinez.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to any animal charity, since Clarke was an avid animal lover.
