Columbia County District Attorney Bobby Christine Called To Military Service This Week
Columbia County District Attorney Bobby Christine is headed out for military service this Saturday.
Christine, a Major General in the U.S. Army National Guard, will be sent to Washington, D.C. for Temporary Duty (TDY) on February 8, but will maintain his civilian position here as District Attorney as provided by federal and state law.
Day-to-day operations in the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office will be managed by the office’s leadership team, in consultation with Christine.
Christine has served as Columbia County’s first District Attorney since July of 2021.
“Since age 17 it has been my honor to serve my state and country in the Army National Guard, and I also am honored to serve Columbia County as its District Attorney,” said Christine.
He earned his commission as an officer at the age of 19, and remains a reservist as of 2021.
In 2024, Christine was promoted to the rank of Major General after receiving the nomination from the President of the United States. With the promotion, Christine became the first reserve component officer in the Army’s Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps to achieve the rank since the JAG Corps’ inception in 1775.
Columbia County District Attorney’s Appointment By The Governor
Christine was appointed as the District Attorney for Columbia County by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp in 2021 to fill a vacancy created by Senate Bill 9. The bill, which passed in March of 2021, created the new Columbia Judicial Circuit.
Prior to Christine’s appointment in Columbia County, he was the United States Attorney for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. He also worked as a prosecutor in the Augusta district attorney’s office for more than a decade.
Once Christine heads to Washington, D.C. this weekend, he said the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office will be in good hands while he is gone.
“I have absolute confidence in the abilities and professionalism of the leadership team in the District Attorney’s Office. In consultation with me they will carry on the duties of the office without interruption and in accordance with the high standards expected by the citizens of Columbia County,” said Christine.
